Oatmeal and Rye
Homemade Dog Treats
The Brew
1 cup uncooked oatmeal
1 tablespoon bouillion granules (beef, chicken or vegetable)
3/4 cup powdered milk
1 medium size egg, beaten
1/3 cup butter
1 1/2 cups hot water
3/4 cup of flaxseed
3 cups rye flour
Directions
Preheat oven to 325 degrees
Heat the water
in a microwave safe bowl or glass container, add bouillion and stir.
In a large bowl, pour the hot water over the oatmeal and butter.
Stir in the powdered milk, flaxseed and egg.
Add rye flour 1/2 cup at a time and mix well.
Knead three to four minutes then place on a sheet of wax paper and roll the
dough 1/2" thick.
Use cookie cutters to make fun to eat shapes and bake on a greased cookie pan.
Bake for 50 minutes and cool before serving your dog.
Makes about 1 3/4 pounds of treats.
These treats have
no perservatives and are not intended to be sold commercially.
Store your treats in the freezer.
Note: Buy your flaxseed whole and ground in a coffee grinder for the best
nutritional value.
You can also substitute the same amount of cornmeal instead of flaxseed and
wheat flour
instead of rye flour.
